Project scope
The project involved the introduction of the moviniti sequence sequencing software at a site with complex requirements. The aim was to replace an existing solution and ensure just-in-sequence delivery of parts such as cable harnesses and tailgates to an OEM. In addition to the standard implementation, a customized special solution was developed to cover requirements that could not be meaningfully integrated into the general range of functions.
» Requirements
- 7 interfaces (sequence calls, speedometer, long & short forecast, assembly data, ASN goods receipt and goods issue)
- Digital process control in manual assembly in sequence
- Sequencing of assemblies and cable harnesses (reverse order and route-optimized)
- Customized sequence labels
- Special tool for determining the appropriate cable harness for the vehicle variant
- JIS/JIT loading with digital shipping notification
Why was the implementation so challenging?
The project involved the introduction of moviniti sequence at a site that supplies cable harnesses, tailgates, and other components just-in-sequence to an OEM – with only 50 minutes’ lead time to production. The implementation not only had to map the processes from goods receipt to sequencing and loading, but also had to take into account the specific requirements of the OEM. The main challenges included a lack of a digital interface for transmitting call-off data, the OEM’s individual logic for variant control, and a language barrier with the French supplier, who was unable to provide a technical contact person. In addition, the time frame for the final phases of implementation was extremely tight. The acceptance test and final configuration adjustments had to be carried out within a week.
How were the challenges solved?
moviniti takes a clear approach to development: extensions should be designed in such a way that they can also be used by other customers. This means more effort in the concept phase, but significantly less effort in maintenance and further development. In rare cases, a requirement is so specific that it cannot be meaningfully integrated into the standard. For this location, a special tool was therefore developed for a specifically required logic, which communicates with the standard scope via its own interfaces – technically cleanly separated from the standard scope.
What advantages did the new sequencing software bring?
The introduction of moviniti sequence brought measurable improvements:
- Cost savings: The transparent licensing model saves around 20% per year. The cloud architecture eliminates local server costs. The software scales automatically with volume, which brings additional cost advantages.
- User-friendliness: The intuitive interface reduces training costs and speeds up the learning curve.
- Change management: Employees were involved at an early stage, which significantly increased acceptance.
- Flexibility: The solution has a modular structure and can be expanded as needed.
