The challenge

The aim of the project was to implement a warehouse management software for inventory control, order picking, and loading of individual parts for a machinery manufacturer within one month. Initially, picking orders were created manually based on orders received via e-mail. During the course of the project, we developed new SAP interfaces together with the client to eliminate the manual effort required for order entry.

  • Project started with manual transmission of order data
  • No existing ERP standard interfaces on the customer side
  • Transmission of a dataset was not possible directly via the ERP system
  • Receiving non-standardized product labels from more than a thousand different suppliers
  • Managing inventory in different units (pieces, meters, etc.)
  • Requirement for an individual goods accompanying document per picking order for posting into the client’s SAP system
  • Storage of small, medium, and large parts
  • No option to receive advance shipping notifications in the ERP system
  • Need for regular inventory reconciliation between ERP and moviniti

The solution

The moviniti warehouse client was ready within a few days, allowing master data and storage areas to be created, staff to be trained promptly, and the first posting in the system to take place after just three weeks. Regular project meetings with the customer began immediately after project launch to jointly implement the remaining interfaces and open requirements.

  • Successful go-live with moviniti within three weeks
  • Design and development of five new SAP interfaces in collaboration with the customer’s SAP consultants
  • Additional implementation of an automatic import of data from a .CSV file
  • Standardized labeling of goods delivered by suppliers
  • Expansion of functionality to include units of length, weight, and volume
  • Configuration of a customer-specific format for the goods accompanying document and printing together with the picking list
  • Sequential processing of picking orders by storage area
  • Sending of a digital delivery notification by email to the customer’s receiving department
  • Automatic sending of a daily inventory report

The result

Successful launch with moviniti despite a short lead time of four weeks
Joint design and development of five new interfaces between SAP and moviniti
Complete transparency of inventory and order status for the customer
Alternative automated solution for receiving data that could not be transmitted from SAP
Simple printing of a customer-specific delivery note via configuration in moviniti
Significant increase in efficiency in inventory taking through the implementation of a digital annual inventory process
