Digitization of sequencing with moviniti software in just a few weeks

Project scope

At our customer’s site in France, various parts families such as door panels, exterior mirrors, and bezels are sequenced for a French automobile manufacturer with a lead time of 50 minutes to production. An average of 175,000 parts are delivered to the OEM each month.

Requirements

  • 2 customer-specific interfaces
  • Delivery with planned sequence, creation of final sequence
  • Withdrawal without inventory management for a part family
  • Sequencing in sequence and reverse order
  • Sequence labels in moviniti standard

Why was moviniti introduced for the digitalization of processes?

Production logistics requires precise processes.

Parts must be on the conveyor belt in the correct order and at the exact time. Paper-based processes quickly reach their limits here: lack of transparency, high error rate, and no real-time data. Modern sequencing software such as moviniti sequence solves these problems. It supports just-in-sequence and just-in-time loading, checks sequences seamlessly, and offers various strategies – from standard to reverse order.

The intuitive user interface significantly reduces training requirements. Employees work via scanners or web applications, while all data is evaluated in real time. The result: maximum process reliability and transparency.

What were the challenges and how were they solved?

1. Major change: First-time digitization of logistics processes

The biggest hurdle was the change process: the first-time digitization of logistics. Here, the project team focused on intensive communication and training. Warehouse specialists and team leaders were involved early on, handhelds were selected jointly, and software demos were conducted regularly. After go-live, experts were on site to answer questions directly.

2. Project communication in multiple languages

The project team worked in a German-French environment. All meetings were accompanied by specialist translators to avoid misunderstandings. Requirements were first documented in German and then translated into French. Regular feedback loops enabled unclear requirements to be identified and eliminated at an early stage.

The principle of “native language first” applies to support, supplemented by tool-assisted translation for fast response times.

What advantages did the new sequencing software bring?

  • Successful launch with moviniti within 12 weeks
  • Expansion of the sequencing business from 4 to 11 part families without adapting the software – solely through configuration
  • Further digitization was continuously implemented (automated inventory report, sequencing in circulation containers)

Conclusion: Successful digitization as a prerequisite for further optimization

    • Successful launch with moviniti within 12 weeks (including two interfaces)
    • Expansion of the sequence business from 4 to 11 part families without software adaptation – solely via configuration
    • Further digitization measures were continuously introduced (automated inventory report, validation of fixed returnable containers in sequencing)
