Digitization of manual sequencing processes in France

At our customer’s site in France, various part families such as door panels, exterior mirrors, and seats are sequenced for a French automotive manufacturer. As the number of sequencing areas increased, so did the requirements for efficiency and flexibility – successfully implemented within a few weeks with moviniti.

The challenge

Transformation of a fully paper-based process into a digital workflow for transparent and secure sequence deliveries.
Additionally, an extremely short lead time before production, a comprehensive change management process, and bilingual project communication had to be managed.
  • Replacement of a paper-based sequencing process
  • Initial implementation of software for warehouse staff
  • Short lead time of 50 minutes from receipt of production data to delivery to the plant
  • Various sequencing strategies due to different part families and sequencing racks (exterior mirrors, door panels, pre-assembled seats, individual parts for the console, etc.)
  • Delivery of homogeneous containers as well as pre-sequenced goods
  • Customer-specific requirements for sequence labels
  • Sequencing into predefined returnable containers and non-fixed, unmarked sequencing racks
  • Sequencing of exhaust systems with prior assembly

The solution

Introduction of moviniti sequence initially for one parts family. Gradually, the paper-based process was also replaced for all other parts families.
  • Implementation of moviniti sequence
    • 1 interface to the OEM for receiving call-off data via ENX connection
    • 1 customer-specific, automated report for the supplier
    • Intuitive process management from goods receipt, through replenishment, to sequencing and loading
    • Replenishment of both small load carriers and full pallets
    • Use of multi-item picking areas for pre-sequenced racks as well as single-type picking areas
    • Extension of sequencing strategies to include validation of predefined returnable containers
    • Configuration of a customer-specific sequence label
    • Development of a systemic backup process together with the French OEM
  • Change process for warehouse staff
    • Introduction of moviniti first for one sequencing area, then gradual replacement of additional areas
    • Close involvement in the implementation and testing process of moviniti
    • Personal support after go-live by moviniti experts on site

The result

The successful launch with moviniti was completed within four months.
The sequencing business was expanded purely through configuration from four to eleven product families.
Two custom interfaces successfully integrated.
Optimal systemic support for various sequencing strategies.
Additional requirements such as automated inventory reports were continuously implemented.
The sequencing in circulation containers was added retroactively.
