Project Scope
The project involved implementing the sequencing software moviniti sequence at a site with complex requirements. The goal was to replace an existing solution and ensure just-in-sequence delivery of components such as wiring harnesses and tailgates to an OEM. In addition to the standard implementation, a bespoke custom solution was developed to cover requirements that could not reasonably be integrated into the general feature set.
» Requirements
- 7 interfaces (sequence requests, speedometer, long & short forecast, assembly data, ASN goods receipt and dispatch)
- Digital process guidance in manual assembly in sequence
- Sequencing of assemblies and wiring harnesses (reverse order and route-optimized)
- Customer-specific sequence labels
- Special tool to determine the correct wiring harness for the vehicle variant
- JIS/JIT loading with digital shipping advice
Why was the implementation so challenging?
The project concerned the introduction of moviniti sequence at a site supplying wiring harnesses, tailgates, and other components just-in-sequence to an OEM—with only 50 minutes lead time to production. The implementation not only had to map the processes from goods receipt, through sequencing, to loading, but also had to factor in the OEM’s specific requirements. Key challenges included a lack of a digital interface for call-off data transmission, the OEM’s individual logic for variant control, and a language barrier with the French supplier, who could not provide a technical contact. Furthermore, the timeline for the final phases of implementation was extremely tight. The acceptance test and final configuration adjustments had to be completed within one week.
How were the challenges solved?
moviniti follows a clear approach in development: extensions are designed so that they can also be used by other customers. This means more effort in the concept phase, but significantly less effort for maintenance and further development. In rare cases, a requirement is so specific that it cannot reasonably be integrated into the standard. For this site, a special tool with dedicated logic was therefore developed. This tool communicates via its own interfaces with the standard solution – technically separated from the standard feature set.
What benefits did the new sequencing software deliver?
- Cost savings: The transparent license model saves around 20% per year.
- User-friendliness: The intuitive interface reduces training effort and speeds up onboarding.
- Change management: Employees were involved early on, which significantly increased acceptance.
- Flexibility: The solution is modular and can be expanded as needed.
